The Interagency Climate Change Mitigation Group, created to craft policies to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, will host the June 10 and 11 workshops at the Sheraton Washington Hotel. Invitations to the workshops have been extended to experts from industry, state and local governments, labor, environmental organizations, and academia. "We are interested in hearing from people with many different perspectives, and learning about innovative, new ideas that can help us craft a creative and cost-effective policy," said Kathleen McGinty, Director of the White House Office on Environmental Policy which is coordinating this effort. The workshops open June 10 with a plenary session involving participants from the six working groups of the Interagency Climate Change Mitigation Group: Energy Supply; Energy Demand; Transportation; Methane and Other Greenhouse Gases; Greenhouse Gas Sinks; and International Joint Implementation. Senior Administration officials will describe the overall policy objectives and how the workshops will contribute information to developing policy. In the afternoon June 10, individual workshops will be conducted around the working groups. There will be 11 workshops during the two-day conference. On June 11, workshop sessions will continue to explore issues raised during the plenary session. The plenary session and all of the workshops are open to the public.
